Competition Changes

I just got word from the State Thespian Board that there are some significant changes coming up to competitions.

• the States registration fee will increase to $130/person next year. It will be frozen at that level for the next two years.

• each troupe used to be able to bring up to 3 Performance Superiors and 5 Tech Superiors to States. That rule has been reduced to 6 Superiors per troupe (of any combination of Tech/Performance). This makes advancing to States more competitive than ever!

• all Tech events have been reduced from 15 minutes to 10 minutes each. No word on how that time will be broken down yet in terms of presentation/feedback.

• the Ensemble Acting event has been reduced from 8 minutes to 5 minutes.

• the Group Musical event has been reduced from 8 minutes to 5 minutes.

• the Monologue event has been reduced from 5 minutes to 3 minutes. This is a big change! It was changed to make it meet the industry standard of monologue auditions of 1-1/2 minutes apiece.
